Many people when they are beginning to pick up golf spend more time
perfecting their golf swing than discovering any other single skill for
golf. You should also expect to have this same need, after all a
terrible golf swing will result in poor playing skills while a stable
and refined swing will make you highly successful.

There is no perfect swing, just watch the pro's they are all slightly different, from how they start the swing to when they bring the head of the club to meet the ball and finally to their follow through. Just keep watching and practice practice practice. One key advice, eye's stay on the ball, and don't try to over swing,

If you get a chance to look at some older players who were pretty much self taught, you will see a lot of different swing types. Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino and Jim Thorpe come to mind. The one thing these swings, as well as more conventional swings, have in common is that the face of the club is always square to the target at impact. Take a look a t Jim Furyk. There's a guy with a huge loop at the top of his swing, but he remains one of the most consistent ball strikers on tour. The thing you can learn from every swing is the importance creating a consistent swing you can repeat every time. Good luck and have fun!

Everyone's swing is a bit different when compared to one another. Alot of golf commentators mention that Ben Hogan had one of the best swings ever. I've heard that Ben Hogan's "Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf " is a great read, even though it is a bit outdated. I'm actually heading to a bookstore this weekend to buy this book to read this winter when it's too cold to play. If you need immediate help, lessons with a good instructor is the way to go.

If it were only that easy. Practice, practice, practice. A book on the basics would help. Get some lessons if you need to. Don't read too many magazines, you'll end up with a 5 piece swing. And realize it's going to take time, years most likely. (Unless you're like a friend of mine with so much talent he broke 90 within 3 weeks of picking up the game)

No such thing, work on your fundamentals and play in as many tournaments as possible.

While driving, if you're slicing, make sure that your grip is really loose. If you're right handed, make sure you don't move your left leg at all. Always follow through. Don't try to hit the ball really hard, make your swing a fluid motion and the club will do the rest.
