Pick Up Golf

Many people when they are beginning to pick up golf spend more time perfecting their golf swing than discovering any other single skill for golf. You should also expect to have this same need, after all a terrible golf swing will result in poor playing skills while a stable and refined swing will make you highly successful.

Take a class. When I joined golf for school they had us take a test on the rules and when I was studying for it I found some rules I would never even think would be rules like asking what club someone is using is against the rules.

The proper way to play golf is to learn from a professional. My dad was an excellent golfer but a horrible teacher. I tried reading self taught books and they helped a little but i didn't start playing good until I took lessons from a pro. This is not saying all pro's are good teachers. I had taken lessons from two pro's before i found the third whom I loved. He made me love golf all over again. Gold can be very frustrating when your not playing good

Spend 2-3 hours on the putting green, it's where almost half your strokes will occur

If I were you I would get some lessons but here's some advice.Whene you take your grip, make sure your left hand is twisted to the right a bit. There should be like a line between ur thumb and finger and it should point towards your shoulder. When you take your grip make sure the club head doesn't turn when you fiddle about with your grip otherwise the ball will not go where you want it to go. You should have your knees slightly bent but not a lot and your back bent a bit. Your arms should be straight down. When you take your backswing, make sure your back stays at the same angle. What always happens with amateur golfers it that when they take their backswing, their back goes back or sometimes forward but you have to keep the same angle in your back. When you hit the ball, you don't just want to hit the ball, you want to 'brush' the ground. This is why you always see sivets on the grass at the golf course, you have got to brush the ground and get under the ball. It is useful to take a practice swing to get that feeling of brushing the ground. Not too much but not too little.Hope this helps!

U should get lessons unless a friend of yours is a pro. the best way to find some place near u to get lessons at is to use the yahoo local search. from there check out there website and call the course. good luck.
