Pick Up Golf

Many people when they are beginning to pick up golf spend more time perfecting their golf swing than discovering any other single skill for golf. You should also expect to have this same need, after all a terrible golf swing will result in poor playing skills while a stable and refined swing will make you highly successful.

Learning to golf alone?

Question: Learning to golf alone?

(Posted by: Mr M on 2008-06-08 18:13:04)

I've always wanted to learn how to golf, or at least try it to some extent. But I don't know a single person that plays it, no family members, friends, or even peers. I would find it strange to go out in a golf course all alone and learning how to golf, not knowing anyone there. Maybe it sounds crazy to the average golfer, maybe i have it all wrong, but then again I've never went to a golf course... It seems people go golfing with friends or their boss, etc.

Never let anyone con you into going out on the golf course and embarress yourself until you have a couple of basics down. You can learn without knowing any golfers, but start slowly. 1) get a few second hand clubs from garage sales, etc. No good spending a heap on a great set of clubs until you are know you will continue with it. 2) golf courses have putting practise greens. look at some putting tips on answers and start with the putter. You will meet golfers there that can help with tips 3) Go to the driving range with 3, 5, and 7 irons. look at others and pick a spot near somone who knows how to hit the ball well. Ask him/ her for some ideas after trying to hit a few balls 4) when you are going around the course, good players behind you are intimidating to new players. Try playing just before lunch when others avlid until after they have eaten Good luck and have fun

The thig is at a local golf course, you can find people or golf buddies who have a common ground and can help you out with your skills, they have drinking cabins there right? Build up the confidence go and offer somebody a game or someone on the course might even make a new friend to share their interest in the sport with

Sometimes you can play golf alone and then sometimes you will be paired with someone or added to a group because of the amount of people playing. Also, if you take up the game, you will undoubtedly meet people and make new friends. I usually play with my father and brother, but I get invitations to play with co-workers(current and former) and all sorts of other people. Take up the game, play in a scramble and you will play with all kinds of people. I know this guy who just plays golf to play in scrambles. It is the only time he plays.

When you go to a public golf course without a tee time they put you on the walk-on list. then they pair you with any available players. this is a great way to learn to golf because you get paired with people that are strong at many different aspects of the game.

I play alone all the time. Its a good way to focus on improving yoru game and concentration. That being said, it is more fun to play with other people. Most public courses will hook you up with others, but a regular competitive group is really nice. Check craigslist for activity partners. I found a guy on craigslist that I play with alot now. Also, check to see if there is a league in your town. Golf leagues with regular tournaments are lots of fun. Lastly, if you have the cash, join a club. good luck.

If you want to golf, then go for it! don't let the fear of having no one to play with stop you. i'm a young girl golfer and none of my friends golf, at all, and i managed to meet a ton of people to golf with once i started. that's why golf is such a great sport, you meet new people. even if you don't want to meet new people, you can still enjoy golfing by yourself, because it is in fact an individual sport. you can start out by taking lessons from a pro at a golf course. once you get the skills mastered, you can ask them some advice on finding playing partners. you can also ask some of your friends to start golfing with you. then you will all be on the same page when it comes to being "new " at the game. like i said, golf is an individual sport anyway, most people just play for themselves. good luck and practice hard!
