Pick Up Golf
Many people when they are beginning to pick up golf spend more time
perfecting their golf swing than discovering any other single skill for
golf. You should also expect to have this same need, after all a
terrible golf swing will result in poor playing skills while a stable
and refined swing will make you highly successful.

Question: How can i improve my golf drive?
(Posted by: Mike on 2009-07-27 09:06:12)
I am 15 years old and I play golf, but I can't drive the ball very far. maybe 150 - 200 yards, around there. I have strength, im not weak. I've seen friends my age and size that have hit it very far. I have good clubs and everything, so how can I improve my swing and hit the ball farther? |

Distance in golf comes primarily from technique. Strength training and flexibility training can help, but mostly its technique. Also, if you are hitting it straight you are fine. I would rather be 150yds in the fairway than 250yds and in the trees anyday. Remember too, some people have a natural aptitude towards techniquest that hit the ball a long way. By far the best way for you to start seeing an increase in distance is to get lessons from a local PGA Professional. The results will make it well worth it. Hope this helps, Good luck! |

Im 15 and on my high school golf team. If u are slicing or pulling the ball that will take yardage off ur tee shot. one guy told me to put a broken tee about 2 feet behind ur ball.... on ur back swingg bring the club strait back....and then continue ur swing...it helped meallott.....but make sure not to take ur eye off the ball when doing this.... use ur purpler vision. |

Make sure you use your shoulders in your swing, that is where the main power comes from. i had the trouble myself and had some lessons and it was because i was only using my arms in the swing, you have to twist your shoulders round in the swing.sorry if this is hard to understand its probably badly worded |

If you are really concerned and have the money, the best thing to do is to go to a PGA Professional that will give you lessons anywhere from 20 to 80 dollars per hour. However, a few tips if you just want to refine your swing and don't want to spend the money. First of all you need to make sure your set up consists of playing the ball just inside your front foot. Your feet need to be about shoulder width apart. When you take the club back you need to make sure you are turning your hips and driving the ball not only with your upper body, but with your legs and hips. You also need to make a substantial shoulder turn, by this I mean to turn your left shoulder to where it comes underneath your chin at the top of your back swing. Then on the downswing, sweep the club through and turn your wrists so the clubhead meets the ball squarely. Then follow through and finish your swing. For more help, I would suggest reading the book "How I Play Golf " by Tiger Woods. |

Well i am 12 and i drive the ball about 200-220 yards, and i actually slowed down my swing. I had been swinging too hard and taking too long of a backswing. All it took was a slower swing and to shorten my backswing. Get your swing grooved like that and then swing harder. |

Give yourself enough room between you and the ball. During your swing make sure your chin touches your shoulder each time. Both when you go back and finish. It feels funny but, has really improved my swing. Also, keep you hands loose. If anything, you never want to grip you clubs tight. Just keep it loose and swing as you would with any other club (except your putter of course.) Good Luck! |
