Pick Up Golf
Many people when they are beginning to pick up golf spend more time
perfecting their golf swing than discovering any other single skill for
golf. You should also expect to have this same need, after all a
terrible golf swing will result in poor playing skills while a stable
and refined swing will make you highly successful.

Question: Anybody have some golfing tips?
(Posted by: on 2008-11-07 10:25:04)
Well, I tried golf out for my first or second time in my life. It was catastrophic. I hit the ball too high every time. It would roll on the ground for about 50 yards and that's how I get my distance... How do I swing a bit lower? What are some things to improve my accuracy? I fail at hitting the ball with every club possible. Driver, 4- 9 Irons, Pitching Wedge. |

You cannot learn to play golf with a quick answer from the internet, it takes years to learn. But hitting the ball too high means your swing is too steep (up and down). Try turning around your body more as you swing. Best investment you could make would be $12 for Hogan's book "Five Lessons - The Modern Fundamentals of Golf ". This will set you on a good track toward consistent ball striking. |

Keep your elbows straight and don't bend them during the swing. When you get into position, before hitting the ball, take a step back and practice swinging a few times. Then step up again and hit the ball like you practiced. Hope this helped a bit and good luck! |

Play the correct tees, not the tips just to show what a stud you are (no matter what tees your partners are playing). And take a few lessons. |

Well the internet is a good place to get answers but not a good place to learn how to golf. The best tip I can give you is to take some lessons with a PGA professional. If you are unable to do that, then try some of these tips. 1. Make sure your head is behind the ball at impact. A lot of people yank their head forward on the down swing, this causes them to get to steep and "top " the ball. 2. When you swing aim to hit the ground about an inch past the ball on the target side, this will allow you to swing down through the ball and that will make the ball go up in the air. 3. Always try to pick a target to aim at. Your accuracy will improve as your ball striking does. |

Brandon, golf is a hard sport and to play golf well is even harder. That said, Flatstick and Chris have it right. Invest in a few lessons. That will give you the right things to practice and improve. I hope you stick with it. Golf is a great life long activity. Good Luck. |

It is a fickle game keep your head down that is the biggest tip i have ever learned and take lessons even if you think it is a waste of time imagine how you would feel if you wasted 50 bucks to play and hit the ball 30 yards each time it would be horrible |

Brandon, there are very few actual sports prodigies in the world.....for the rest of us mortals, we are left with lessons from a teaching pro and hours of practice. tips on a forum like this are like peanuts in a can......they are all different and they all end up in the toilet. |

Let me understand: You get into position with the club at the right height and arms straight you swing back and then swing forward as hard as you can some how, the club raised an inch during your swing and you top edge the ball Try keeping your head down a bit longer. Only look up after your right arm touches your chin. If you look up before then (to see where the ball goes) you automatically pull the left shoulder up a fraction that raises the club head. Also, don't swing so hard. Let Golf technology in the clubs work for you instead of your strength until you have the swing working well. Practise at a driving range before going out onto course. Lessons from a pro are a great idea. Like driving a car, you learn right from the start and you won't make mistakes a habit that lead you into more problems. Good luck |
