Pick Up Golf
Many people when they are beginning to pick up golf spend more time
perfecting their golf swing than discovering any other single skill for
golf. You should also expect to have this same need, after all a
terrible golf swing will result in poor playing skills while a stable
and refined swing will make you highly successful.
Question: Should i join my colleges golf team?
(Posted by: that one person on 2010-03-11 07:28:31)
I go to a small Division III school in Ohio. In high school I played Football and Baseball. Im pretty athletic and sports come pretty easy for me. I won many awards for my athletics in high school. I originally went to this college to play football but a knee injury kept me from following through with it. I started playing more golf. I played while in high school but not for the golf team. In high school I would golf a couple times a month and my game wasn’t very good. I was about an 18 handicap. However, I started to play more over the summer going into college and I have dropped my handicap to around 8. I really enjoy playing golf and miss the competition of sports. I am just wondering if playing college golf would turn into more of a job than something that I would enjoy doing. Ive never been on a golf team so I am just confused about how everything works. By the way the school I go to has a no cut policy when it comes to its athletics. So my skill level really isn’t that important whether I can make the team. Im just wondering would it be worth my time to join the team or would they look at my as an outcast because I did not play golf in high school and might not have the same skills as the other players?

If you want to play, go for it. If you decide it's not for you, no big deal. Sounds like you've already improved your game significantly and maybe you can do even better. People shouldn't look at you as an outcast, you're just there to play.

Yes - by playing with the others it will no doubt improve your own game.

DIII does not give scholarships and are less competitive then dI and dII, but you travel and compete against other schools. Have fun

Why not? As you said ,you are good at sports, it's not bad for you.
