Many people when they are beginning to pick up golf spend more time perfecting their golf swing than discovering any other single skill for golf. You should also expect to have this same need, after all a terrible golf swing will result in poor playing skills while a stable and refined swing will make you highly successful.

Jack Nicklaus Golf My Way. Learn that. I used a book. There is probably videos and stuff out now. Get a basic lesson. Ask the instructor to NOT get too involved. Just the basics. That should help.

The best way for you to make improvements in your golf swing is to take lessons from a quality golf instructor.

Go to driving range and get a pro.

Try checking around for a group class on swing basics. I've seen a couple in our area being conducted by local pros. The cost will be a little easier on the wallet and will give you a good basic understanding of the golf swing without getting too specific on issues and corrective action. After that, spend some time practicing and playing. This will help you make a better informed decision on where to go from there, and with any luck you'll have a teaching resource that has some understanding of your capabilities. Good luck!

All of these answers are good. Do yourself a favor if your serious about learning the game and get some lessons. You can learn how to play the game on your own but it will take forever to have a decent game if you go that route.

1. Read Ben Hogan's "Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf. " In simple terms he explains the grip, stance, posture, and the two basic components of the swing. 2. Get a lesson. I will never be a great golfer but these two things allowed me to consistently shoot in the low 90s.

I have found it really hard to find good resources on swing mechanics. I tried Nicklaus's books but i found his concepts difficult to apply as a beginner: Here are a few little hints to start off: - Your back is very important. That means using your spine as an axis to keep you on the correct swing plane. This helps to ensure consistency. - Selecting the right grip - Keeping your swing simple and easy makes all the difference in the world. - Keeping your feet and shoulders parallel and pointing to the desired target. Here are some amazing stories about how people have used a trusted system to break 80 handicap. tinyurl.com/ l9vol3
