Question: How to pick the right golf clubs for beginner?

My first few years of playing golf i would get my clubs at "play-it-again sports ", with prices ranging from $4 to $25. they have some really great clubs and it allows you to try out a wide variety of high quality clubs (like nike, titleist, ben hogan, etc) without having to invest large amounts of money after a few years and i felt i had gotten pretty good, then i invested in a nice set of titleists for a few hundred dollars

The first thing that I would do is to go to a store or pro shop that has a hitting cage to find out how you swing. That will give you an idea of what you need to get. The pro will be able to tell you what your swing speed is and let you know how much loft you need to gain maximum results from each shot. If you know someone that is an avid golfer, chances are that they would have an extra set or two that they may let you have for a song. Other places to look would be at the pro shop of any golf course. You can talk to the pro and see what he could come up with for you, within your price range. Another option would be to get some knock-off brands. I would think about getting some cavity backs as my first set. They are very forgiving on mis-hits. I bought a brand new set of Nike Slingshot knock-offs for $167, in the fall. My very first set was purchased at a garage sale for $20. That included the bag and all of the clubs that I would need at the time. Of course, that was in the late 70's. You will have to keep your eyes open if you want great quality at a small price. Recently I bought some Mizuno MP33 Forged Blade irons for $200. They only had 5 rounds played on them, and were immaculate. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. Good luck finding what you want. This is getting to be the time of year that people will unload good items fairly cheap.

I bought my clubs on ebay. Just make sure that you are buying from a high rated seller, as some people are selling counterfeit clubs. You might not get the newest clubs, but they will usually be selling for a better price.

Anywhere really. Go online to tgw.com, ebay, or rockbottomgolf.com. A set of Wilson Ci7's were on sale at tgw.com for 300 bucks. The Ci7's were rated the best game improvement iron in Golf Magazine's Club Test 2008.

Really you need to educate yourself a little about what makes a "good " set of clubs. Then go down to a dealer and try some out and get advice from a trained golf pro. A good golf pro will steer you in the right direction. Once you find the type of clubs you want look on craigslist.com, ebay, local classifieds, garage sales, postings on golf courses, golf friends, discount golf stores for a good set of used clubs. Starting out, don't be afraid to go cheap and then graduate to higher end equipment as you get better.
